The Quatuor de Guitares de Versailles was established in 1987 and gave its first concert in the same year at the Salle Gaveau in Paris under the auspices of Diapason. In 1991 it took first prize at the Völklingen International Competition for guitar quartets. As the first such ensemble in France the quartet has striven to provide itself with as extensive a repertoire as possible, with transcriptions of music from the Renaissance to the contemporary, with the endorsement of composers such as Joaquín Rodrigo and Ferenc Farkas, and commissions from other contemporary composers. The quartet has made a number of successful recordings and has appeared in concert throughout France, as well as in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Switzerland.
