Regarded as one of the finest international guitarists of his generation Stephen Marchionda is a top prize winner at several international competitions, among these are the Guitar Foundation of America's International Solo, the Segovia International, the Kingsville International Concerto and the Manuel de Falla Competitions. In the U.S. Mr. Marchionda has recently been featured at the Lincoln Center in New York City, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, the Aspen Music Festival, National Public Radio's "All Things Considered", the Cleveland Museum of Art, and Yale University.

Abroad, where he has continuously toured every year since 1990, Mr. Marchionda has given acclaimed performances in London, Oxford University, Cardiff, Scotland, Rome, Madrid, Granada, Athens and Copenhagen.

A graduate of the Yale School of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music, Mr. Marchionda was affiliated with the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1991, where he received classes with the celebrated guitarist Julian Bream. Other influential teachers include Ricardo Iznaola, John Holmquist, Benjamin Verdery and John Mills.

Mr. Marchionda's performances are characterized by flair, technical facility and musical individuality. Currently he lives in New York City, where he teaches at Columbia University's College of Performing Arts.

His debut recording, Spanish Sonatas, for the Touch Media label was hailed by What's On in London:

"...his playing has a spiritual character that suits the music perfectly. Beautiful. For a taste of outstanding classical guitar music played by a virtuoso of the instrument, don't miss Stephen Marchionda's recording."

In July of this year Mr. Marchionda signed a contract with the English classical music label ASV. His first recording for this company, Complete Variations and Preludes of Manuel Maria Ponce will be released internationally in January 2001.
